Mary J Blige - Family Affair (Fabian Luttenberger Remix)

Fabian Luttenberger’s avatar

Well what a transformation! We all know the original 'family affair', it was one of the biggest tunes of the early naughties. The German producer has melted down those vocals, converting those punchy Dr Dre beats of the original into something smooth and laid back. This remix is nostalgic yet refreshing at the same time.

Boean - To The Left

boean’s avatar

You may have realised by now that Boean is one of my favorite up and coming producers, every one of his tracks is pure gold. Here he uses a sample of Tweet with Missy Elliot, as always with Boean its upbeat and bouncy with old skool garage vibes, which just brings a smile to your face. The choice of sample is spot on, he really masters the original to make it his own. If you haven't already make sure you check out the likes of 'no love dear' or 'babe you do'.

Milo Mills - Let Me Go

So I was shuffling through my mailbox, when I came across this absolute gem sent by Milo-Mills. 'let me go' is a real head nodder with its upbeat electronic vibes and I cant seem to get the catchy repetition of 'let me go' out of my head, its really addictive. Check out his a recent remix of Little Dragon's 'Ritual Union' which is rather dazzling. 'Let Me Go' is available as a free download.

Oppaa - N'questia

When I think of future garage Adele would never come to mind, even as a sample, I just wouldn't put the two together, however much to my delight Oppaa has proved me wrong. You may recognize the sample as 'melt my heart to stone', Oppaa has made this his own, he embodies the soul and depth of Adele's voice, but he gives the vocals a nice reverb and adds an enchanting warm bassline. this is one shit hot track.

Wih'lo - Don't Need

We have seen the past year been dominated by the young prodigies of the future garage movement with the likes of Polkadot, Bodax, Karma Kid.. who have created music beyond their  years. Wih'lo is a 19 year old producer, his music is atmospheric and deep with tints of darkness, you almost feel part of it. I love those glistening synths and looping vocal samples which suck you in. These dazzling sounds of 'Don't need' are transformed into pictures in this breathtaking video.

The diversity of music that Salute produces is outstanding, a true credit to his creativity and production skills. On this occasion he's chosen to play with some garage, and wow, he captures the Aaliyah's vocals beautifully a really sexy production. If you're hungry for some more try 'left behind' or 'In the night' to get a taste for his different sounds.

El. Train - Love Is A Myth

Rock The Boat (FREE DOWNLOAD)

The Best thing about this genre of music that it's growing and growing, all the time new artists are hitting the scene with their own interpretations of house, garage and electronic music. Meet El. Train, an underground producer who has just launched an E.P. entitled 'Emotions'. The stand out track has to be 'Love is a myth', I love those laid back summer vibes. Grab the E.P free from his soundcloud.

Hermitude - HyperParadise (Flume Remix)

Flume’s avatar

Kick of your New Years celebrations with Flume. The Aussie based producer has had a massive year with the release of his self-titled LP, his sound has a mix of electronic/Hip-Hop/ and Dance genres, worth a listen. His remix of 'HyperParadise' is bursting with energy with big bass and uplifting synths, for me my favorite track of his, perfect to get you in the mood for the new year.

Jacques Greene - Another Girl

What makes Jacques Greene's music so gripping is the use of powerful vocal samples. In 'Another Girl' it seems to tell a story, and you can really hear the emotion in the voice 'you gotta me feeling like another girl', accompanied by a deep bass almost like a heartbeat. There are hints of dakness in his tunes, which makes his music so enticing and absorbing, very similar vibes to great 'faded'.

Best of 2012

It's the end of the year, Christmas has come and gone in a flash, but now on the horizon the new year beckons. I don't know if it's just me but time is just flying by, so I thought that we should just stop and reflect on the past year in music.

Pangs of nostalgia hit me as I look back at certain tracks, memories of people, places and events. 2012 has been an incredible year, we have seen the breakthrough of artists like Disclosure, Bondax, Karma Kid, who have hit the mainstream, some of the young prodigies who have done wonders for the genre.

Hundreds of tracks have been shifted though, but the difficult choices have been made and the top 10 tracks of 2012 have been chosen. But let us not forgot other greats such as Village, Bailey, Maths time Joy, Taneli, AZ&TOR, Kaytranada, Luvian, kidnap kid and a personal favorite Boean.

10. Jeremih - Fuck U All the Time (Schlohmo Remix)

This song is pure sex, a stunning production with the trademark style of Schlohmo.

9. Applebottom - I.M.O.G.E.N

One of the young pioneers of the genre, his sound is so effortlessly funky and cool, any one of his tracks deserve a place on the top 10.

8. Disclosure - Boiling

Who can forget disclosure, 'Boiling' really was the confirmation for me that they were going to be big, release of their album in March.

7. Doo Wop (Pedestrian & Maribou State Remix)

'Do wop' just oozes soul with old skool and garage vibes, Maribou state are in a league of their own.

6. Toyboy & Robin - To The Top

The soundtrack to your new year celebrations, this is the track which hooked my addiction to Toyboy and Robin.

5. Karma Kid - LouLou

The 17 year old never fails to disappoint, absolutely killed it this year, supported from the likes of radio 1 and red bull studios. Check out 'lust love' and 'always' which deserve places on the top 10.

4. Justin Martin - 'Baby I got That'

This has to be my favorite Bondax track, it went down an absolute storm picked up by Pete Tong and dropped in Ibiza as one of the summer tunes. Always brings a smile to my face.

3. Polkadot - Wasn't like that

Who hasn't joined the Polkadot hype, big things to come in 2013 from this teenage, watch this space.

2. Say My Name (Cyril Hahn Remix)

Cyril has blended this original into perfection, making the original almost unrecognisable, one of those songs which gives you goosebumps.

1. Aaron Lipsett & Fion. - Cognac

What a year it has been for Lipsett and Fion, Cognac is the jewel in the crown, an utterly stunning production of the Brandy vocals, even playing it now it was if i was playing it for the very first time.

DΔKTYL - No Love Lost

DΔKTYL’s avatar

DAKTYL has really experimented with different sounds here, its an exquisite production. I love the drumming beat behind the laid back synths and the lulling repetition of 'now that i need you'. He's labelled this song as 'future whatever', he's right, people are always trying to put labels of music, but sometimes we can't and shouldn't. 'No Love Lost' is one of a kind.

Drake Fireworks (Deadboy slo mo house edit)

This remix has been around for a while now, but I thought I would give it a good dust off and share it with you, and boy is it one gem. Deadboy has blended and smoothed out the Alicia Keys vocals and given it a slow pounding house beat, the endless repetition of 'all I see is fireworks' casts you under a spell. You find yourself sinking into your seat into a dreamlike state, this track is almost like a drug.

Amerie - One Thing (Jetlag Remix)

Allow me to introduce to you Jetlag, a Belgian duo who have their own unique style and take of future garage music. The build up in this remix is full of energy with bouncy garage beats and the Ameria vocals have been cut up and shaped beautifully. Jonas LR - Oh

I love this song, its just really fun. 'Oh' has been really well put together, it has crazy synths and nicely chopped vocals which creates upbeat warm vibes. There has been a nice development and maturity in the sounds of Jonas from dubstep to garage and house sounds, in 'oh' you can hear hints of dubstep and electronic sounds from which she has been influenced.

Brandy - Baby (WiSkiM RMIX)

..*..WiSkiM..*..’s avatar

I first hear 'baby' remixed by Applebottom in his funky track 'OoOoOoOh Baby', however the belgian producer WiSkiM gives it a different taste. There is a really soft house beat to this and typical to WiSkiM's style there is an ambient atmospheric sound which is really chilled. WiSkiM use varied genres, with drum n' bass, garage and house sounds, I love the fact that they experiment and intergrate different sounds into their music.

Rihanna - You da one [J.u.D. Remix]

I admit i'm not a big fan of the current trap hype.. but wow this is a really stunning track. J.u.D describes his sound as dreamy trap, you find yourself absorbed and hypnotized by his music its a really original and unique sound unlike any trap i've heard before. there are elements of R&B with the beautifully blended Rihanna vocals, her voice and the original is almost unregonisable. Get involved with the J.u.D sound.

Mr.Beeb - Want Her

Mr. Beeb’s avatar

Inject a bit of beebage into your day, and no I don't mean that cretin Justin Bieber, i'm taking about the talented Mr Beeb. 'Want her' is a laid back tune with old skool vibes, similar to 'what you do' with its silky synths and bass heavy beats. This is what i love about Mr Beeb, his music is effotlessly good, well he did spend a long time producing 'want her'.. well a good few hours at least.
